During my internship at Mustache in Copenhagen, which is an app design and development company, I learned a lot of different tools for UI design. One of my main projects during the internship was creating a design for an app of their side project called HvadKosterEnApp, which at the moment is a website that can help you out and estimate what it would cost to get an app made. You can check the website out here!
The goal of sketching is functional and it is about generating ideas, solving problems and communicating your ideas efficiently to others.
The quality of the sketches are not important but what is important is if the sketch conveys your message.
During my internship most of my time was spent sketching. Everytime I had a new idea, I sketched it down to know how to create the design.
The main inspiration for the app design came from the current design from the website mixed with inspiration from various designs I browsed my way through.
Throughout the process of designing the app, I constantly made sure to run usability tests. Wether it was simple small talks and feedback during the breaks or around in the office, making functional click dummies with InVision or even getting people from outside to test the early stages. What is important is that it gets done and that it gets done as early as possible during the design. Because prototyping and usability testing is key to UI design and will save a lot of time and effort later on in the development.
